Parashuram,sixth avtar of Vishnu was a Brahmin who belongs to the Treta Yuga.Parashu means axe, hence his name literally means Rama-of-the-axe. He received an axe after undertaking a terrible penance to please Shiva , from whom he learned the methods of warfare and other skillsWhen the Kings of the earth became autocratic and started to harm ordinary people and sages in the forest, Vishnu took the Avatar of Parasurama and destroyed all the princes who were harassing the people.
